TrailNav

How to get a route from Trailforks
  1. On trailforks.com (signed in), open a route or plan one with the Route Planner.
  2. Tap Download and choose GPX. (Trailforks only lets Pro members download GPX files.)
  3. Back here, tap Import routes or trails and pick the file from Downloads. Zip files of several routes or trails work too.
  4. Trail downloads (single trails, not routes) are kept as a trail set for that area. TrailNav uses their names for the turn instructions and on the map.
How to get a route from Ride with GPS
  1. Open the route on ridewithgps.com and choose Export.
  2. Pick TCX Course (it includes the cue sheet, so you get Ride with GPS's own turn instructions) or GPX Track.
  3. Back here, tap Import routes or trails and pick the file.
Before you ride
  • Import and open each route while you still have signal. TrailNav downloads the trail map and elevation for it automatically. Look for Ready offline.
  • Add TrailNav to your home screen (Share, then Add to Home Screen on iPhone; the menu, then Install app on Android) so it opens full screen and keeps its offline data.
  • Keep the screen on while navigating (TrailNav asks the phone to keep it awake). If the phone locks, GPS and spoken directions pause until you unlock it.
  • Turn instructions come from the OpenStreetMap trail network. Where a trail isn't on that map, TrailNav still shows the line and warns you if you go off route.
